Monday - Friday 08:00- 17:00

£13.50 - £16.00 per hour dependant on experience

Overview:

A Joinery Fabricator is responsible for the construction and assembly of various joinery components, including cabinets, furniture, doors, and architectural millwork. They work with wood and other materials to fabricate custom pieces according to design specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities

Material Preparation:

Select and prepare materials for fabrication, including lumber, plywood, veneers, and hardware, based on project requirements and design specifications.

Cut, shape, and size wood components using woodworking tools and machinery such as saws, planers, jointers, and routers.

Perform milling, sanding, and other surface preparation tasks to ensure smooth, even surfaces and proper fitment of joinery components.

Joinery Techniques:

Employ various joinery techniques to create strong and durable connections between wood components, including mortise and tenon joints, dovetail joints, and finger joints.

Assemble joinery components using adhesives, fasteners, and clamps to ensure structural integrity and stability.

Ensure precise alignment, angles, and fits of joinery elements to achieve seamless integration and aesthetic appeal.

Custom Fabrication:

Fabricate custom joinery products such as cabinets, shelves, counter tops, and furniture pieces according to design drawings, blueprints, or client specifications.

Incorporate decorative elements, mouldings, and accents into joinery designs to enhance visual appeal and complement architectural styles.

Customise joinery components to accommodate hardware, fixtures, and accessories as required by the design or functionality of the finished product.

Finishing and Detailing:

Apply stains, paints, varnishes, or other finishes to joinery components to enhance their appearance and protect them from environmental elements.

Perform distressing, antiquing, or ageing techniques to create rustic, weathered, or vintage finishes as desired by clients or designers.

Install hardware, fittings, and trim pieces onto joinery products, ensuring proper alignment, functionality, and aesthetic harmony.

Quality Control:

Inspect joinery components for defects, imperfections, or inconsistencies in materials, construction, or finish quality.

Verify dimensional accuracy, squareness, and alignment of joinery assemblies using measuring tools such as squares, levels, and tape measures.

Address any quality issues or deviations from specifications through rework, adjustments, or replacements to ensure compliance with quality standards.

Safety and Compliance:

Adhere to safety protocols, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements for woodworking tools, equipment, and materials.

Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and dust masks to mitigate risks associated with woodworking operations. Participate in safety training, hazard assessments, and incident reporting to promote a culture of safety awareness and accident prevention in the workshop.

Documentation and Communication:

Maintain accurate records of fabrication activities, material usage, work orders, and project specifications, documenting data in production logs, reports, or electronic databases.

Communicate effectively with supervisors, designers, and project managers to clarify requirements, provide updates, and address any issues or concerns related to joinery fabrication projects.

Collaborate with other tradespeople, contractors, and stakeholders to coordinate work activities, resolve conflicts, and ensure seamless integration of joinery components into overall project plans.
