HSSEQ Advisor

We are working exclusively with an industry leading client on the lookout for a proactive Health and Safety Advisor to oversee two sites in Essex. This Health and Safety Advisor will work hand-in-hand with site leadership to drive their HSSEQ (Health, Safety, Security, Environment & Quality) standards forward, ensuring compliance, fostering a positive safety culture, and helping their teams stay safe and effective every day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a trusted HSSEQ partner to site leaders, supporting safe, compliant, and high-performing operations across both terminals
  • Lead inspections, audits, and emergency preparedness activities, ensuring legislative and internal compliance
  • Champion a culture of "Visible Felt Leadership" by coaching managers and engaging with the wider workforce
  • Investigate incidents, identify trends, and drive improvement actions to reduce risk and boost safety performance
  • Support external inspections and maintain the site's UKAS Accreditation
  • Deliver engaging training, inductions, toolbox talks, and safety communications
  • Take the lead on risk assessments, contractor management, emergency response planning, and occupational health risk control
  • Facilitate safety meetings, walkarounds, and behavioural observations to recognise good practice and tackle unsafe behaviours

As such we would like you to have:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 5 qualification
  • Background in science or engineering (preferred)
  • Certified ISO 9001 auditor (ideally with ISO 14001 and 45001 knowledge)
  • Experienced in COMAH / high-hazard environments with strong understanding of process safety management
  • Skilled in hazard evaluation (HAZID/HAZOP), risk assessments, emergency planning, and incident investigations
  • A confident communicator and coach, comfortable influencing people at all levels
  • Strong knowledge of HSSEQ systems and best practices
  • At least 5 years’ experience in an operational or engineering environment, ideally within a major hazard industry
