Transport Shift Manager- Job Profile

To ensure that the delivery schedule requirements, service level criteria and manpower resource commitments are met on a consistent basis both daily and weekly. To ensure that Drivers work within the legal requirements of all legislation and that all vehicles meet the Road Traffic Act regulations. Always ensure full 'O' Licence compliance.

Transport Shift Manager - Job Responsibilities

  • To liaise with the planning department and warehouse to ensure the daily delivery schedule and service levels are met consistently together with full optimisation of available fleet and maximum capacity utilisation.
  • To manage the briefing and debriefing of all drivers and communicating such information as required to the appropriate person and or department, using various computer packages.
  • Liaise with all the relevant departments within the group prior to the morning conference call. Confirm that all the days' deliveries and collections are underway and running to time.
  • To manage driver's hours within the constraints of all current legislation always ensuring maximum cover for the operation. Monitor the WTD hours and give guidance and training when necessary.
  • Carry out return to work interviews prior to commencing any duties, set up follow up interviews when necessary and further action if required.
  • To manage the administrative support, ensuring the input of all information and data, paperwork flow is maintained, and filing is kept up to date.
  • To ensure that vehicle defect procedures are strictly adhered to and liaise with the workshops to limit down time to the absolute minimum.
  • To be fully aware of Health & Safety requirements and to ensure that staff are fully informed and comply with legislation and company policy.
  • To attend any conference calls with all the required information relevant to the operation.
  • To take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the operation as and when required.
  • Give the Transport Manager your full support, ensuring your department is always run efficiently keeping them fully always appraised.

Transport Shift Manager - Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years operational transport experience, preferably in general haulage and multi drop delivery operations
  • Proven management of fleet resources more than 30 vehicles.
  • Knowledge of transport and driver legislation.
  • Experience of setting and monitoring of achievable targets.
  • Ability to plan and control hours as required.
  • Desirable but not necessarily national CPC holder.
  • Some previous experience in dealing with a vehicle maintenance unit in achieving high standards of service levels.
  • Good understanding of stock receiving/control in general haulage.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement process.

Transport Shift Manager- Remunerations

  • Monday - Friday
  • 30 to 13.30 and 11.00 to 20.00 on weekly rotation
  • Salary £36,000 - £40,000
