Project Engineer ( Production / Food / Automotive )  Woking Permanent

This is an exciting role which plays an instrumental part in the delivery of Engineering projects from Conception to Benefits realisation (Typically, £100 t £3M). This includes feasibility studies, cost estimates, proposals for both internal projects and third party sales across all business areas in the UK & Ireland. You will achieve this by supporting the Senior project managers and a multi  discipline engineering team

 

You will be responsible for the delivery of engineering projects safely, on time and on budget to meet the needs of the business.

Key responsibilities

Develop project plans that encourage input and collaboration from all team members, ensuring diverse viewpoints and innovative ideas are incorporated.

To be commercially aware in ensuring that project design/costs developed are competitive & fit for purpose to support the business to deliver the required returns/win new 3rd party sales while balancing SHEQ requirements.

Responsible for identifying and reporting project risks and challenges with a broad perspective, encouraging team input for creative solutions. This includes variation management to increase sales and limiting/controlling supplier/contractor variations. 

To plan and co-ordinate engineering resource (internal & external) to execute projects.

To develop Project Proposals to achieve financial approval for project budgets.

Ensure that contractors demonstrate ownership and understanding of SHEQ strategy and objectives and that the teams comply with statutory requirements, company policies and procedures.

Build effective relationships with key customers and suppliers to ensure that the department is customer (internal & externally) focussed and responsive.

Ensure good engagement & communication with the customer (internal or external) throughout the project lifecycle. Seek and act on customer feedback. 

Manage site construction activities such as contractor control, permit to work, working at height, plant installations, mechanical and electrical installations, testing and commissioning of the inclusive of pressure testing, acceptance, documentation in the form of as built data, health and safety file incorporating operating and maintenance manuals.

Knowledge: 

      Knowledge of engineering practices/ contracting/ Project Management/ Industry standards 

Project management principles life cycle

Financial awareness and reporting metrics

Basic risk management 

Health and Safety Legislation including: o   Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR)  o          Construction Design & Management Regulations (CDM)

Forms of contract awareness.            

  

Essential Qualification and Experience:

      Degree/HNC/HND or equivalent engineering qualification in process/mechanical/electrical discipline or equivalent 

3  years practical industrial experience 

Strong understanding of engineering principles and a commitment to inclusive project management methodologies (e.g., APM, Agile). 

           -      

      Knowledge in project engineering in either contracting or operating company environments, proposals, tendering, sub-contract activity, financial/cost management. 

Proven track record of project engineering on time, cost and to appropriate SHEQ standards

 

Desirable Qualification and Experience:

      IOSH/NEBOSH Certificate desirable

Project Management qualification e.g. APM, Prince2

Proficiency in project scheduling software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera)

Professional membership to IChemE, IMechE, APM, IET or equivalent and working towards Chartership or equivalent would be a plus.
