Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Specialist - Sustainability to join their dynamic team. This role is ideal for an individual who is passionate about driving environmental performance and sustainability within an engineering environment. You will work across key operational teams (Design, Production, R&D, and Manufacturing) to identify, scope, and deliver sustainability projects that drive continuous improvement in their environmental impact. Senior Specialist - Sustainability - About The Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the delivery of sustainability projects that enhance environmental performance across multiple operational teams, including Design, Production, R&D, and Manufacturing.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for reducing environmental impact through innovative solutions.
  • Drive the implementation of circular economy and decarbonisation initiatives within the company’s supply chain.
  • Collect, analyse, and report on environmental performance data, tracking key metrics such as carbon footprint, energy consumption, waste reduction, and resource efficiency.
  • Develop and implement strategies to achieve company-wide sustainability goals, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Take a data-led approach to inform decision-making, utilising relevant sustainability metrics and benchmarks to assess project success.
  • Foster a culture of sustainability within the organisation, promoting best practices and raising awareness across all levels of the company.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on sustainability, offering guidance and advice to senior management and operational teams.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, including suppliers, regulatory bodies, and industry partners, to stay up to date with the latest developments in sustainability.
  • Support the development of sustainability-related reporting and communications to both internal and external audiences.

The successful Senior Specialist - Sustainability will have:

  • Proven experience in sustainability or environmental management, ideally within the engineering or manufacturing sectors.
  • Strong understanding of circular economy principles, decarbonisation strategies, and sustainability metrics.
  • Experience in project management, with a track record of delivering sustainability projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and influence key stakeholders.
  • Ability to think strategically and take initiative in identifying and capitalising on sustainability opportunities.
  • A proactive and results-oriented mindset, with a passion for driving environmental improvements.
  • A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel to various sites as required.
  • Relevant degree or qualifications in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience in supply chain sustainability or corporate sustainability reporting (desirable but not essential).
  • Knowledge of sustainability standards, certifications, and frameworks, e.g., ISO 14001, Carbon Trust, BREEAM (desirable but not essential).
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and sustainability reporting frameworks such as GRI, CDP, and others (desirable but not essential).
