Your new company is a construction company based in the surrounds of Woking, Surrey that specialises in the installation of interior fixtures and fittings for commercial properties on London construction projects. The company has enjoyed rapid expansion and an impressive increase in turnover that has created a position for an Assistant Buyer / Trainee Estimator / Project Co-ordinator to support the project management team in organising the estimating of material costs to fulfil the demand on site for purchasing and delivering construction materials and labour as well as managing tasks on the project plans. Your new role is to work alongside the project team to read the scope of works, interpret the procurement schedules for individual projects with a value from £0.25 million to £4 million and assist in the execution of the project plans. This role is an office-based role and training would be given on the specific products, which include plasterboard, suspended ceiling systems, dry-wall partition systems & MF systems. You will assist our Operations Manager on a day-to-day basis. All training will be provided. Assist setting up projects, with focus on ensuring materials and resources are procured in line with the contract (programme, sectional completion etc.) and to ensure a successful financial outcome on material purchases.In your role, you will undertake various estimating duties, which include sending tender enquiries to suppliers and labour subcontractors. You will be responsible for carrying out take-offs when necessary and verifying measurements when quantities have been provided. Additionally, you will assist with obtaining material prices for estimates and engage in meetings with suppliers to review and negotiate improved rates.As part of the project coordination duties, you will review project programmes and compose procurement schedules in line with these programmes. You will source samples for client approval, submit technical submissions, and obtain approval for samples. It will be essential to review tendered rates and purchase materials at or below these rates. Negotiating with suppliers on lead times and costs, tracking purchased plant, and arranging plant for new projects are key responsibilities. You will also manage the circulation of equipment for projects, track equipment and sign off equipment and plant invoices monthly. Furthermore, you will carry out measurements on drawings, compile and issue operations & maintenance manuals, and assist the financial team with compiling variations.Your general duties will encompass preparing and regularly updating the company's pricing database, as well as engaging in general sales and marketing activities for the company. You will be expected to entertain clients when required and attend meetings with suppliers to review and negotiate rates. Regular internal contract review meetings, site visits, and any other duties as required will also form part of your responsibilities.What you'll need to succeed is a high level of organisational skills, and you will have a positive can-do attitude to work and be able to work unsupervised. You will have proficiency in MS Office such as Word and Excel. You will either have some form of formal training and education in construction or have experience within a construction company or a similar business to business service and could learn quickly in the sector. This role suits a recent school or university leaver, who would like an entry level into construction. All training will be provided.You will live in the Woking, Surrey area and need to have your own transport, and the head office is not located near any transport links and is in a rural location. You will have excellent listening and analytical skills and be able to communicate professionally at a high level with the senior staff in the organisation.What you'll get in return is a competitive salary from £17,665 for candidates aged up to 20 and up to £25,000 for candidates aged over 21.
