Are you looking for a role where you can support the mental health of vulnerable young people? A well-respected specialist school near Woking is looking for an Intervention and Pastoral Assistant to support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The students range between 10 and 16 years old, and some children / young people will have suffered trauma and adverse childhood experiences. You will identify their risks and needs, escalating where necessary. The students therefore need an Intervention and Pastoral Assistant who will be dedicated to being a consistent role model, is committed to building strong relationships, is empathetic and up for a challenge!

If you are looking to kick-start your career in Social Care, Psychology, Mental Health or Education, then this Intervention and Pastoral Assistant role is the perfect opportunity for you. You really will be having a positive impact on the lives of children and young people who need it most.

A common feature for many children and young people with special educational needs is marginalisation and disadvantage, trauma, dysfunctional family relationships, low educational attainment and stigmatisation. Subsequently they face many barriers in life and are more 'at risk' of negative outcomes. You will be instrumental in providing consistency, and equipping children and young people with tools to ensure they feel safe, secure, empowered, and believe that they can succeed in life.

This is a challenging role and any previous experience in a relevant field would be advantageous, but is not essential. Training, support and CPD is required in order for you to perform your duties and to ensure safeguarding of all students.The ideal Intervention and Pastoral Assistant must be open-minded, resilient, and knowledgeable about mental health. The perfect candidate will have experience with SEN children and/or adults in any setting. Graduates in Psychology, Criminology or Counselling would also be perfect for this position. It would be most ideal if you were local to Woking.
