About the Role

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to support our Food Science and Analytical Teams. This is a hands-on, rotational role where you will work across different teams each week, gaining experience in analytical testing, food product development, and small-scale food manufacturing. The ideal candidate is flexible, detail-oriented, and eager to develop practical laboratory skills.

Key ResponsibilitiesAnalytical Laboratory Team
  • Prepare and analyze food samples (e.g., grinding cocoa beans, moisture analysis, fat content, pH measurements, titration).
  • Use laboratory equipment and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintain accurate records of lab work and ensure data integrity.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties, including dishwashing and cleaning equipment.
Food Product Development Team
  • Assist in the preparation of food samples by weighing ingredients and following recipes.
  • Support the development of new food formulations and processes.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the lab environment.
Small-Scale Food Manufacturing Team
  • Assist in manual chocolate production, following manufacturing processes and food safety protocols.
  • Operate small-scale food production equipment (full training provided).
  • Follow strict food safety and quality standards.
Key Requirements
  • A-Levels in a scientific discipline (preferred: Chemistry, Biology, or Food Science).
  • Ability to work flexibly across multiple teams and locations (Reading & Wokingham sites).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately.
  • Comfortable with manual and physical work in a lab and manufacturing setting.
  • Competency in basic lab techniques and equipment use.
  • Good IT skills, including the use of LIMS or other laboratory software (training provided).
