Are you an enthusiastic about History and Politics and passionate about teaching?  

GSL Education are in search of a History Teacher to join a lovely secondary school based in Wokingham immediately. 

About the School:

The school is a warm and welcoming school; they are a community, small enough at around 380 for everyone to be seen, valued and counted, but large enough to provide an excellent education, hosting a wide variety of academic, sport and creative opportunities. They are a co-educational school with the privilege of educating boys and girls from Year 7 through to Year 13, with both day and boarding places on offer. You will be joining a well-resourced and popular department which delivers GCSE History and both A Level History and A Level Politics. The department has membership of the History Association, with all its teaching materials and CPD.

About the Role:

At this school, History is a very popular option for both GCSE and A Level, and many of their students have gone on to read the subject at University. They follow the AQA specification, teaching Nazi Germany, Medicine, the Age of Elizabeth, and Conflict and Tension in Asia at GCSE. At A Level, they teach the English Civil War and Russian history from 1855 to 1957. Politics has become an increasingly popular choice at A Level and also follows the AQA specification. The successful applicant will be an inspirational teacher and an outstanding classroom practitioner who has strong organisational skills and works well with others. The ability to teach Politics is desirable but not essential. This post may be suitable for an ECT.

General Teaching Duties Teaching and Learning

1. Manage pupil learning through effective teaching in accordance with the Department’s schemes of work and policies.

2. Ensure continuity, progression and cohesiveness in all teaching.

3. Use a variety of methods and approaches (including differentiation) to match curricular objectives and the range of pupil needs, and ensure equal opportunity for all pupils.

4. Set homework regularly, (in accordance with the School homework policy), to consolidate and extend learning and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own learning.

5. Work with SEN staff and support staff (including prior discussion and joint planning) in order to benefit from their specialist knowledge and to maximise their effectiveness within lessons.

6. Work effectively as a member of the Department team to improve the quality of teaching and learning.

7. Set high expectations for all pupils, to deepen their knowledge and understanding and to maximise their achievement.

8. Use positive management of behaviour in an environment of mutual respect which allows pupils to feel safe and secure and promotes their self-esteem.

 

Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in History/Politics
  • PGCE/QTS
  • Experience of teaching History at the secondary level is preferred.
  • Familiarity with KS3 and GCSE curriculum.
