Plant Quality Engineer

We are looking for a Plant Quality Engineer with a strong background in manufacturing to join our team. The successful candidate will support our Quality department and the wider organisation to ensure our products and processes meet the highest quality standards. This role is integral to driving improvements, minimising costs, and enhancing customer satisfaction.

As a plant quality engineer, you will need:

  • Understating of quality engineering processes especially 8D
  • A strong working knowledge of Metrology and material related quality issues.
  • The ability to manage customer issues, and effectively maintain relationships.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Ensure compliance with the Quality Management system (IATF16949/ISO9001).
  • Monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to prevent non-conformity related to product, process, or system.
  • Collect data to define issues and drive improvements.
  • Lead internal, supplier, and customer quality-related issues.
  • Conduct problem-solving activities using methodical processes.
  • Authorise the stoppage of production in the event of product or process non-compliance.
  • Support initiatives to reduce scrap and improve Right First Time (RFT) metrics.
  • Conduct sample approvals and apply SPC and MSA principles.
  • Identify root causes and implement permanent corrective actions for product quality issues.
  • Maintain and implement Control Plans, PFMEA’s, and associated documentation.
  • Participate in the internal audit program, including layered process audits and product/process audits.
  • Utilise knowledge of manufacturing systems, welding, metal pressings, and laser cut parts.
  • Use measurement equipment and interpret engineering drawings and Control Plans.
  • Support the maintenance of the calibration system and the Quarantine process.
  • Assist with New Product Introduction (NPI) and associated activities.
  • Participate in the development of Design and Process FMEA’s.
  • Coordinate Change Management activities.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Professional qualification preferred but not essential.
  • Proven experience in a fast-paced manufacturing organisation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with experience using methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa, etc.
  • Audit experience and knowledge of IATF16949 and VDA standards.
  • Proficiency in core tools (MSA, SPC, ISIR) and GD&T principles.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes and quality systems.
  • Knowledge of measurement methods and techniques.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and tolerances.
  • CMM knowledge and programming skills are advantageous.
