Principal Mechanical Design Engineer Wolverhampton 70.5k

Progressive Engineering and a European Engineering OEM Leader in Complex Mechanical Handling, Process Systems & Machinery Engineering for Nuclear Applications are looking to recruit a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer for their Engineering & Manufacturing HQ near Wolverhampton, owing to project workload for (Apply online only)+.

Based in Wolverhampton and reporting into the Head of Engineering, the Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will be leading a team of Design Engineers (up to 10) to deliver concept-engineered solutions against complex requirements through the design lifecycle (from Front End Engineering to Detailed Design production), ensuring that the designs meet the requirements of the project, is compliant against codes & standards and is delivered to time, specification & budget.

Specifically, the Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design & delivery of complex mechanical handling, machinery & process systems for heavy-regulated applications in the Nuclear Sector (including Defence, New Build, Modular Reactor & Fusion / Fission Energy Projects).

Qualification & Experience Required for Principal Mechanical Design Engineer role:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar (Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering etc)
  • Prior experience as Principal Design Engineer / Design Manager / Mechanical Design Team Lead
  • Full design lifecycle experience, taking designs through the gull design lifecycle, from concept through manufacture and commissioning
  • Previous experience of leading and/or managing teams of engineers (directly or indirectly)
  • Prior DFM experience including Fabrication, Machining, Welding etc
  • Experience in the mechanical design of Machinery, Mechanical Handling Systems, Hydraulics, Heavy Fabricated Structures, Landing Gear, Complex Mechanical Assemblies, Bulk Handling Systems, Oil & Gas Engineered Systems etc for regulated applications, such as Oil & Gas, Energy, Heavy Engineering, Pharmaceutical, Mining, Process Industry, Aerospace etc
  • Previous design experience using 3D CAD, FEA Analysis Software and Hand Calculations to validate designs (stress & structural calculations etc).
  • Conversant with British and European Technical and Legislative standards

For the successful Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, a salary of up to 70.5k + package is on offer.

This Principal Mechanical Design Engineer role is commutable from Wolverhampton, West Brom, Birmingham, Telford, Cannock, Stafford, Stourbridge & Dudley and my client also operates a hybrid & flexible working policy.
