RSR and Black Country Women’s Aid are currently recruiting for a Children and Young People’s Advocate.

As an advocate , you will primarily work within Primary schools in Wolverhampton to support children and young people affected by domestic violence and abuse (DVA) in the home. You will deliver training to professionals within the education setting to enable them to deal with disclosures and support children effectively.

This is a full time, fixed term contract for 12 months, based in Wolverhampton, offering a salary of £22,308 - £23,423.40

Full driving license and access to own vehicle is required for this position.

Main Duties:

  • Deliver evidence based one to one interventions, group work and advice in a variety of locations (primarily education establishments), across Sandwell with an aim to build resilience in children and young people.
  • Ensure that all interventions delivered are age appropriate and child led to reduce risk and are culturally sensitive to children and young people.
  • Offer general awareness of healthy/unhealthy relationships, confidence & self-esteem, managing & understanding emotions, promoting resilience and managing challenges, and identifying and developing healthy coping strategies.
  • Create a safe, age-appropriate space to work with young people, encouraging them to share their experiences, thoughts and feelings.
  • Identify warning signs that someone is being controlling or abusive.
  • Evaluate and assess families for the suitability of the Dart Programme.
  • Make referrals and work together with other services to create the best outcomes for young people and, their families.
  • Ensure that cases are sensitively managed, case management systems are accurately completed and risk assessments and support plans are in place and approved.
  • Work in collaboration with the adult work to ensure the best outcome for families and children.

Essential Requirements:

  • GCSEs English and Mathematics - Grade C or above.
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 in relevant subject, preferably working with children.
  • Experience of working with children/young people, acknowledging safeguarding concerns and responding appropriately.
  • Experience of handling a caseload.
  • Experience of using risk assessments and appropriate interventions tools to manage and identify risk.
  • Understanding of trauma informed approaches.
  • Have knowledge and experience of applying health and safety, GDPR compliance and management.

Role is subject to DBS check at the relevant level.
