This role is ideal for a professional who is passionate about supporting students with additional needs and thrives in a highly supportive, small-class environment.About the School:This specialist school caters to children and young people aged 5-19 with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and associated needs. Known for its inclusive and nurturing atmosphere, the school focusses on equipping students with the skills they need for independence and success in their personal and educational lives.Facilities include sensory rooms, quiet zones, and tailored learning spaces that enhance engagement and meet the unique needs of students. Staff are highly trained and committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment where each child can flourish.About the Role:

  • Teaching a class of 9 students in Year 11 and Year 13, all working at a significantly lower ability level than their peers.
  • Leading a team of 5 experienced TAs and HLTAs, collaboratively creating and delivering a curriculum tailored to the students' needs.
  • Focusing on functional academics, life skills, and personal development, ensuring the lessons are engaging, accessible, and meaningful.
  • Supporting students with autism and complex needs, managing sensory and communication requirements with approaches such as PECS, Makaton, or other tools.
  • Maintaining a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Temporary cover for staff absence, with the potential for extension beyond the New Year.

What We're Looking For:

  • A qualified teacher (QTS/QTLS) with experience teaching students with SEND, particularly those with autism and associated needs.
  • Strong understanding of differentiated teaching strategies and the ability to adapt lessons to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to manage and collaborate with the class team.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach, with a passion for working with young people who face additional challenges.
  • Knowledge of SEND strategies, including sensory support and behaviour management techniques, is essential.
