Design Manager

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Design Manager to lead and oversee the design process across multi-disciplinary engineering projects. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ proven experience in design management, delivering projects from planning application to completion. This role requires a strong understanding of engineering principles, project management, budget control, and a focus on maintaining quality standards and meeting project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:
- Control the design process from planning stages through to project completion, ensuring all design deliverables meet project milestones.
- Manage design team workloads, delegating tasks, and ensuring that work packages are delivered on time and within scope.
- Set up and maintain drawing issue registers, ensuring accurate and timely submissions of work packages.
- Monitor design programmes and schedules, keeping them updated to reflect project progress.
- Ensure that all design outputs meet Employer Requirements, complying with specifications and regulatory standards.
- Proactively identify and manage project risks and opportunities, addressing issues that may impact design delivery or quality.
- Ensure quality control of design deliverables, maintaining compliance with ISO accreditation standards to uphold business credentials.
- Define project scope and assist in the production of tender documentation, working closely with other departments to align on project needs.
- Work within budget constraints, tracking project expenditures and ensuring projects are delivered within financial targets.
- Ensure design work complies with relevant health & safety standards, including CDM regulations.

Qualifications and Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a design management role, demonstrating successful leadership in multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
- A relevant engineering qualification (HNC/Level 4 or higher).
- Preferably a member of a relevant professional institution (e.g., APM, ICE).
- A broad understanding of engineering principles across multiple disciplines.
- Experience in developing project timelines, assigning tasks, and ensuring progress is monitored to meet project milestones.
- Proven experience in budget management and delivering projects within financial constraints.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Understanding of health & safety standards and CDM regulations.
- Experience with NEC contracts and Primavera P6 is desirable but not essential.
