Your new companyHays Senior Finance have been retained by a family-owned SME manufacturing business in the Worcestershire area as they look to appoint a new Financial Controller on a permanent basis. The company has experienced strong levels of growth in recent years and, as such, are keen to bring in an experienced individual who has aspirations of becoming a Finance Director in the future.

Your new roleReporting into the Group Finance Director, you will be responsible for leading on all finance and accounting operations locally whilst managing a small, well-established team.

Main duties:

  • Managing the day-to-day operations including AP, AR, NL, cost accounting, stock accounting and payroll
  • Co-ordinating month-end and year-end close processes
  • Co-ordinating and directing the preparation of the budget and other financial forecasts
  • Preparing and publishing monthly financial statements
  • Overseeing the audit process including the preparation of statutory accounts and liaising with auditors
  • Cashflow management
  • Preparation of quarterly VAT returns
  • Supervision and management of the finance team (5 staff)
  • Streamlining and improving financial operations, processes and systems
  • Support with financial strategy and decision-making

What you'll need to succeed

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with post-qualification experience
  • Previous experience in the preparation of management accounts, year-end financial statements, budgets and projections
  • Proven track record of operating at a high level within an SME organisation, preferably within the manufacturing sector
  • Able to work closely with both financial and non-financial staff
  • Persuasive and determined personality with the confidence to challenge and influence
  • Possess the ability to motivate, manage and develop staff
  • Strong Excel skills and highly proficient with accounting packages (Sage an advantage)
