Job Overview

We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Trainee Commercial Insurance Broker. This role is an excellent opportunity to develop a career in the commercial insurance industry, where you’ll learn to assist businesses with their insurance needs, gain essential industry qualifications, and work closely with experienced brokers. You will learn about a range of commercial insurance products and how to tailor these to meet the unique needs of business clients.

Key Responsibilities

Client Support & Relationship Building

    • Assist senior brokers in understanding the insurance needs and risk profiles of business clients across industries such as retail, construction, professional services, and manufacturing.
    • Act as a point of contact for clients, handling basic queries and supporting them with insurance policy information.
    • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, gaining trust and understanding their evolving insurance needs.

Policy Administration

    • Support the preparation, renewal, and management of commercial insurance policies, ensuring accuracy and compliance with both client and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain detailed client records, assist with the preparation of client presentations, and draft policy endorsements.
    • Process documentation, including applications, adjustments, renewals, and cancellations, under the guidance of senior brokers.

Market Research & Quote Preparation

    • Conduct research on available commercial insurance products, providers, and market rates, using these insights to assist with providing tailored quotes.
    • Assist in preparing quotations and proposals for clients, ensuring competitive pricing and thorough coverage based on client needs.
    • Liaise with insurers and underwriters to negotiate terms and conditions that benefit clients, with supervision from senior brokers.
    • Support senior brokers in assessing client risk factors and reviewing insurance options that align with their business goals and risk tolerance.
    • Contribute to developing risk management strategies, ensuring clients have adequate coverage for their specific industry risks.

Professional Development & Compliance

    • Participate in structured training programmes, working towards Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) qualifications and other relevant industry certifications.
    • Stay updated on regulatory and compliance requirements, as well as industry trends, to ensure the highest standard of service and advice.
    • Ensure adherence to Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulations and company policies in all client interactions.
Qualifications
  • Education: A minimum of a GCSE or equivalent qualification including Maths
  • Licensing: Willingness to pursue CII qualifications and other necessary certifications.
  • Experience: Prior experience in customer service, sales, or administration is advantageous but not essential.
Skills & Competencies
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining insurance products to clients in an understandable way.
  • Analytical Abilities: Basic understanding of financial principles and commercial awareness, with good research skills and attention to detail.
