Latham & Bond HR are currently working exclusively with a leading automotive manufacturing supplier in Worcester to recruit an HSE Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for all HSE optimisation aspects and improvements across our clients sites. This includes both internal and external permits supporting (projects production logistics assembly quality HR etc.) by leading and advising heads of departments throughout the business with HSE leadership, HSE work stream management, formulation and reporting of HSE budgets, communications, ensuring an efficient HSE program of improvement that supports HSE business performance needs. Provide strong HSE leadership and management across the group, coordinating HSE workloads, delivery of HSE work stream activity, ensuring group targets are met, and improving HSE Key Performance Indicators (Safety, Environmental, and Cost). Develop the management team across the group by focusing on individual and team performance to achieve HSE high standards whilst fostering a culture of continuous improvement and working safely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead to ensure HSE resources are applied in an efficient and effective manner to meet group business requirements.
  • Manage & Maintain ISO45001 / ISO14001 Certification at all sites.
  • Ensure all HSE inputs follow defined manufacturing procedures and comply with HSE requirements whilst establishing any HSE work stream activity.
  • Ensure full adherence to 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardise, Sustain) practices.
  • Ensure HSE work stream improvements are conducted in a well-defined and safe manner.
  • Ensure all HSE work stream activity is tracked, monitored, and recorded accurately & appropriately.
  • Support lean manufacturing practices within the group by applying HSE standards and regulations.
  • Support and line-manage the HSE Coordinator at the Worcester site (JVM). This includes PDP performance reviews (six monthly).
  • Support productivity improvements program ensuring all aspects of HSE are applied.
  • Support (SMED) program with HSE advice.
  • Lead and perform accident HSE root cause analysis and resolve problems.
  • Identify business improvement opportunities across the group (new HSE work streams).
  • Identify and deploy the HSE skill sets, resource levels, and systems to deliver improvements.
  • Liaise with all departments and sites to ensure risk assessments are conducted for all processes.
  • Support the Coordination of the project management office PMO (5s & safe and sustainable workplace).
  • Support project engagement.
  • Lead HSE visual management program across the group.
  • Group budget adherence.
  • KPIs adherence (HSE).
  • Support new ideas and employee recognition scheme.

People Management:

  • Responsible for and line manage the HSE Co-Ordinator at the group's Worcester site (JVM).
  • Responsible for daily management and support for the operations team to achieve HSE success.
  • Monitor the completion of HSE tasks and ensure good performance recording data on appropriate systems.
  • Promote high HSE standards consistently through personal example and roll them out throughout the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviours expected of them.
  • Support daily cross-functional meeting.
  • Communicate HSE Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) from the strategic annual plan via weekly briefings so that the operations team is aware of expectations and deliverables.
  • Support PDP for operations structure and team members with HSE information.
  • Work positively with all functions/departments to define the processes/procedures/controls relevant to operational activities. Provide support and input to continuous improvement activities within the company.
  • Support timekeeping and absence management and effective return to work interviews (if required).

Relationship Management:

  • Liaise and communicate with all departments to ensure an effective interface is maintained.
  • Feedback to the Management team to share ideas to improve HSE recommending, supporting, and implementing continuous improvement HSE work stream improvements to optimise business results.
  • Provide HSE leadership expertise to the team.

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Experience in leading group activities to drive HSE improvement ideas.
  • Experience in assisting and developing (multi-skilled) people.
  • Strong PC skills and experience with packages such as Excel and Word.
  • In-depth Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, including ISO45001 / ISO14001, and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of Quality standard TS16949.
