The Company

We are working with a market leader within the logistics industry who are experiencing significant growth. They have a clear path for future company growth and as such are looking to add a Head of Operations to launch their new depot in Worcester.

The Role

We are looking for a Head of Operations to work on launching and run a new 60,000 sqft depot. You will recruit, manage and develop the operations teams and enhance the critical relationships and processes affecting the sales team and region in order to facilitate the creation and delivery of profitable service to customers and so achieve the budget for the depot.

You will initially be responsible for 110-150 colleagues indirectly (with 6 direct reports), the team is expected to grow to circa 300 colleagues once the site is fully operational.

Key Responsibilities

• Proactively manage the operation & build depot activities with a right first time culture.
• Manage the commercial operation of the depot to ensure the profit budget target is met or exceeded.
• Manage the depot management team to drive operational efficiencies, service excellence and productivity in order to deliver a profitable service to customers and meet KPIs
• Demonstrate the expected behaviours and standards of a people leader to recruit, engage and develop the capability of our people and generate the right customer service culture for the business.
• Support and work with the sales teams in order to ensure the development and retention of accounts and maximise the commercial opportunities available
• Manage the relationships with the Central departments to enhance internal service standards and facilitate service through to the customer.
• Ensure that good management practice and all processes are followed in order to ensure the health and safety of our employees and customers.
• Oversee that all legal regulations and company standards are adhered to at all times to ensure the compliance of the depot.

What We Are Looking For

The Head of Operations should have experience in a similar role and be a strong people leader, who leads by being visible to all colleagues.

Ideally you will be/have:

• Experience of working in a fast-paced logistics/distribution environment
• Ability to 'lead by example' and built a proactive & engaged workforce.
• Experience of setting up new depots/distribution centres would be a plus but not essential
• Evidence of an effective track record of people management and leadership
• Understanding and evidence of being able to run a commercial operation effectively as well as an understanding of sales and the sales force
• Experience and understanding of the food service/distribution market place and running a distribution environment
• Project management experience
• IT literacy
