ABC Teachers is seeking an experienced Youth Worker to work in a secondary school that caters to students with Autism, Learning difficulties, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs.
About the role:
- The Youth Worker will be supporting young people with Special educational needs in small group classes.
- Building a strong rapport with the students to encourage them to attend and thrive in school
- Following the guidance of the teacher but knowing the students well enough to deal with any conflicts
- Working 8:30 - 15:30 Monday to Friday
About the school:
- A secondary purpose built specialist school catering for students aged 11-19 with a range of additional needs which include:- Moderate, Severe and Profound Learning Disabilities, Sensory Impairment, Communication Difficulties, Autism/ADHD, Social and Emotional Mental Health Difficulties, Physical Disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy or Spina Bifida and Complex Medical Conditions.
- The school adopts an inspiring approach focusing on meeting the individual needs of each student, especially with the tailored support that is offered with Education Health and Care Plans.
- Students have an active role in shaping their education and school environment, encouraging self-assessment and involvement in their Review Meetings and also participation in decisions about their future pathways helps them develop a sense of ownership over their learning and personal growth.
- The school nurtures both the academic and social growth of students by encouraging them to participate in sports, drama and music which lead to building self-confidence but also provide opportunities for students to connect with others, which can be especially beneficial for students with varying needs.
About you:
- A relevant Level 3 Qualification such as Children and Young People's Workforce, Sporting qualifications and more is desired but not required.
- Able to obtain suitable references and a valid DBS check*
- Experience working with children with challenging behaviours and backgrounds
- A non-judgmental and caring approach.
Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are a suitable qualification for working with children and experience working with special education needs.
