We currently have a new exciting opportunity in the QDC Department for a Product Quality Technician to join our team in the Workington Mill. Joining us on a full-time, permanent basis and in return you will receive a competitive salary and become part of our welcoming team.

Holmen Board & Paper is a Swedish business and a member of the Holmen Group. The Workington Mill produces premium paperboard under the brand Incada. Our paperboard is an integral part of the shopping experience for our clients’ customers. Since 2013 we have powered the mill almost entirely by fossil fuel free energy. We value our employees and products highly. Today we are approximately 340 co-workers. Our integrated pulp and paperboard mill is located to the west of the beautiful Lake District in the north of England.

About the role:

The successful candidate will provide support to the Mill in the form of calibration, product testing, monitoring, investigation and administrative services.

Our Product Quality Technician will be responsible for:

  • Compiling summary reports on production quality losses.
  • Investigating quality issues & support Mill activities for product quality improvement.
  • Maintaining customer information for Production areas to support Customer Awareness activities.
  • Maintaining board reference standards & defect library & defect codes.
  • Advising on referred quality decisions and on fitness for purpose of product.
  • Reviewing production records and feedback on decision making proficiency.
  • Co-ordinating testing and evaluation for inter-lab comparisons.
  • Implementing agreed changes to board standards and instrumentation. 

Desirable qualities we’re looking for in our Product Quality Technician:

  • Understanding of spreadsheet applications and statistical analysis.
  • Attention to detail, accurate and methodical.
  • Self-organised and analytical.
  • Scientific or engineering background preferably to degree level.
  • Knowledge of the paperboard manufacturing process.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Company’s IT system.
  • Good knowledge of quality management system requirements.
  • Support with Product Safety & Compliance testing.
