Elevation Recruitment Group are delighted to be recruiting for a leading heavy manufacturing business based in Worksop, who are looking for a Materials Laboratory Technician to join the team. As the Materials Laboratory Technician position, you will be heavily involved in sectioning of  steel and cast iron products and general sample prep, microscopy, hardness testing and failure analysis. The main duties of the Materials Laboratory Technician will be:

  • Conduct the assessment of incoming raw materials, and material properties of products manufactured by the business and their sub-contractors; carry out fatigue and corrosion testing of material samples and components in order to advise companies on the durability of materials and surface treatments.
  • Carry out analysis of products which have failed in service and provide the results of that analysis to the group company concerned, or to engineers investigating wider aspects of the failure history.
  • Undertake laboratory tests, setting up test equipment, assembling test samples and recording results according to customer specifications, recognised technical standards or company work Instructions.
  • Provide evaluation of sample products and prepare reports in order to give accreditation to sub-contract suppliers and processes.
  • Provide assistance to companies for routine quality assurance activities conducted by the Technical Department

To be considered for the Materials Laboratory Technician role you will need:

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in metallurgy, materials science or related subject. (desirable)
  • Ideally five years’ experience in a manufacturing plant
  • Detailed understanding of practical materials test and examination techniques, and of equipment for accelerated life testing of metallic and non-metallic materials.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills
