Lead Estimator - Water Sector
Location: Falmer (Hybrid Working Available)

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Estimator to join a leading water sector contractor based in Falmer. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional to play a key role in shaping the cost management of water projects from tender through to completion. With hybrid working available, this position offers flexibility alongside a rewarding career path.

The Role
Reporting to the Pre-Construction Lead, you will be responsible for managing the estimating function across multiple water projects. This will involve reviewing project documentation and scope of works to deliver both innovative solutions and detailed cost estimates. You will also be involved in the negotiation of target prices, working closely with design and delivery teams to ensure successful project outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the estimating function for civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines across several water sector projects.
  • Providing estimating support for both project bids and ongoing work, liaising with design, engineering, and delivery teams.
  • Managing estimating resources across the division, ensuring efficient and accurate delivery of cost estimates.
  • Preparing detailed estimates at all stages of the project lifecycle, from initial feasibility through to detailed design.
  • Leading the development of estimating strategies and presenting to senior stakeholders.
  • Reviewing material and subcontractor quotations to ensure full coverage of the scope and to facilitate cost-effective decision making.
  • Attending site visits to assess project needs and ensure accurate estimates.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Chartered status (preferable) or significant experience in estimating for a major civils contractor in the water sector.
  • Proven experience in pricing medium to large-scale civil engineering projects.
  • Strong knowledge of Civil Engineering Method of Measurement.
  • A customer-focused approach with excellent communication and team-working skills.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with the CCS 'Candy' Estimating System (training can be provided).
  • Degree-qualified or equivalent in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical/ICA Engineering.
