We’re seeking a proactive Health and Safety Advisor to join our committed team at Southern Water! In this essential role, you’ll ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, lead investigations, and provide expert advice across various teams, helping to shape a culture of safety throughout the organisation.
As a key member of our Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) team, you’ll monitor performance, conduct site inspections, and support managers with practical guidance to ensure we meet the highest safety standards. Whether providing technical advice on chemical storage or leading incident investigations, your expertise will drive meaningful improvements in safety culture and compliance.
 Key Responsibilities:
 Deliver and monitor performance against Safety, Health, and Wellbeing strategy and objectives.
Provide expert health and safety advice, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practices.
Lead site inspections, hazard management, and root cause investigations.
Offer practical coaching to managers to enhance their ability to monitor compliance.
Provide technical advice in high-risk areas such as chemical storage and Toxic Gas
Lead incident investigations, reporting findings to the Head of HSW and HSSW Director.
Location: Flexible, must be located within the company’s area (from Isle of Wight to Kent)Â
What You’ll Bring:
 In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation, industry best practices, and their practical application.
Experience in an advisory capacity, ideally within utilities, facilities, construction, or critical national infrastructure, with some exposure to process safety.
You must have NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification, along with CertIOSH minimum grading. Desire to be have CMIOSH or CFIOSH
Full UK driving licence required.
We’re looking for someone with excellent communication skills, particularly in interviewing and report writing, who can clearly convey safety information and recommendations to a wide range of stakeholders. You’ll need the ability to coach and mentor employees, empowering them to take ownership of safety at all levels of the business, while fostering a genuine passion for safety within operational teams. With strong leadership skills, you’ll be able to drive behavioural changes and ensure compliance, balancing business needs with health and safety priorities. You’ll also have the confidence to negotiate effectively and stand firm on critical safety issues, even under pressure.
