About the Role
Do you have a passion for supporting children with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD)? Are you patient, compassionate, and ready to make a real difference in the lives of students with complex needs?
We are seeking a dedicated PMLD Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant and inclusive school community. In this role, you will provide tailored support to students with PMLD, ensuring they have access to high-quality education and care in a nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students with PMLD in their learning, helping to implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Assist with personal care tasks, including feeding, toileting, and mobility support, in a dignified and respectful manner.
- Use specialist equipment and communication tools, such as Makaton or PECS, to facilitate learning and interaction.
- Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to deliver a holistic approach to education and care.
- Monitor and report on student progress, behaviour, and well-being to inform planning and support.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where all students feel valued and supported.
About You
We are looking for a compassionate, patient, and proactive individual with a genuine commitment to supporting students with complex needs.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with PMLD or severe learning difficulties.
- Knowledge of personal care and mobility support, including the use of hoists and other equipment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
Desirable Skills:
- Relevant qualifications in SEN support, health and social care, or child development (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
- Training in specialist communication methods such as Makaton or PECS.
- Experience working in an educational or care setting with students with complex medical needs.
