West Sussex County Council (WSCC) is excited to announce two permanent opportunities for dedicated Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) to join our newly modernised Mental Health Services team. We are seeking skilled Senior Social Work Practitioners who are committed to providing exceptional mental health care through our innovative "Hub and Spoke" model, which ensures a 24-hour AMHP service, 365 days a year.

Requirements:

  • Qualified AMHP with relevant social work qualifications and SWE Registration.
  • Proven ability to triage, risk assess, and manage competing demands.
  • Strong knowledge of mental health legislation and best practices.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

Position Details:

  1. Rolling Rota AMHP (Grade 12 SSWP)
    • Shifts: 8-week repeating pattern with varying shifts (7am-3pm one week, 2pm-10pm another week) including some weekend hours and bank holidays.
    • Enhancement: Additional 18% pay for shift work.
    • Please request a copy of the rota pattern if interested.
  2. Fixed Evening AMHP (Grade 12 SSWP)
    • Shifts: Monday - Friday, 2pm-10pm.
    • Enhancement: Fixed additional pay of 4,471.56 per annum (372.63 monthly).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Mental Health Act (MHA) Assessments.
  • Lead practitioner for referrals, triaging and prioritizing cases based on risk.
  • Collaborate closely with Crisis Teams, general acute hospitals, Sussex Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB), and acute in-patient units.
  • Ensure timely, responsive, and legally compliant interventions.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislative changes through regular training and supervision.
