The Client

Our client a leading renewable energy company focused on pioneering clean energy solutions.
With a commitment to delivering high-impact, large-scale solar energy solutions, they are looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team for the exciting development of a 50MW solar farm project. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to an ambitious renewable energy initiative, ensuring the successful execution of the project while managing costs and risks effectively.

The Role of Senior Quantity Surveyor

As a Quantity Surveyor you will play a critical role in the planning, management, and cost control of the 50MW solar farm project. You will be responsible for providing accurate cost estimates, managing budgets, and ensuring the project is delivered within financial parameters. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction or energy sectors, specifically with solar or renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Management:
    • Develop and manage the project budget, ensuring that costs are monitored and controlled throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Prepare detailed cost plans, estimates, and bills of quantities (BoQ) for the solar farm construction and installation phases.
    • Conduct regular cost reporting and variance analysis, identifying potential cost overruns or savings opportunities.
  • Tendering & Procurement Support:
    • Assist with the preparation of tender documents, including scope of work, specifications, and pricing.
    • Evaluate subcontractor bids and provide recommendations on procurement strategies.
    • Manage contracts and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with project terms and conditions.
  • Risk & Value Management:
    • Identify and assess financial risks associated with the project and propose mitigation strategies.
    • Conduct value engineering exercises to ensure cost-effective design and construction methods are used.
    • Liaise with stakeholders to resolve issues related to project scope, costs, and timelines.
  • Contract Administration:
    • Ensure all contractual matters are dealt with in a timely and effective manner, including reviewing and advising on contracts and agreements.
    • Track and manage change orders, ensuring that variations are captured and costs are properly documented.
    • Negotiate with contractors and suppliers to achieve favourable pricing and terms.
  • Progress Monitoring & Reporting:
    • Regularly assess project progress, ensuring that milestones are met within budget and on schedule.
    • Prepare monthly cost reports and present updates to senior management and project stakeholders.
    • Coordinate with project managers and engineers to ensure that the project is delivered according to specifications and within budget.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Professional accreditation with RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) or equivalent is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, ideally within the renewable energy sector.
  • Strong understanding of solar farm construction processes and the unique cost considerations of renewable energy projects.
  • Proficient in using Quantity Surveying software and tools (e.g. CostX, Buildertrend, or similar).
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with contractors, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations regarding construction and renewable energy projects.
