Weston College is the regional provider for the Prison Education Framework (PEF) across the South West of England and is now seeking to recruit an outstanding and highly motivated Lecturer in Horticulture - HMP Leyhill.
This is a part-time role, working 25.9 hours per week.
We are pleased to now be able to offer a 'Golden Hello’ payment of up to £2,800 for any successful candidate for this position.
Day to day of the role
- To deliver a high-quality curriculum delivering Horticulture courses.
- Developing and maintaining a full course file including comprehensive scheme of learning and lesson planning.
- Manage learner behaviour and challenge negative behaviour appropriately, following prison processes.
- Enriching learning through additional projects and broader activity beyond the qualification delivery.
Required skills and qualifications
- Relevant qualification in Horticulture.
- Excellent team working, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Teaching qualification, or willingness to gain this whilst in post.
HMP Leyhill
HMP Leyhill is a Category D men's prison nestled in Tortworth, Gloucestershire. As an adult male prison with Category D status, Leyhill is a hub for residents deemed suitable for Open conditions. In partnership with Weston College, residents at Leyhill can engage in educational pursuits, ranging from English and math to IT. Additionally, comprehensive vocational training equips individuals with valuable skills and qualifications in wood machining, printing, laundry, retail, kitchen operations, farming, gardening, and fitness. Leyhill takes pride in its personalized approach, offering programs in personal development, social skills, and life management to assist residents nearing their release. Qualified individuals may also benefit from temporary release licenses, enabling them to gain work experience, prepare for transition, or reconnect with their families.
