Job Title: Network Architect 

Location: North Wales

OverviewA challenging opportunity for an experienced Network Architect to lead the design, deployment and support of advanced network and unified communications systems within the public sector. This role requires deep technical expertise in network and telephony services and the ability to collaborate with stakeholders across all levels, ensuring that critical infrastructure meets the evolving needs of users and supports vital organisational objectives.

The Network Architect will be pivotal in:

  • Spearheading the development, configuration and optimization of core network and telecommunication infrastructures (LAN, WAN, WLAN, telephony systems).
  • Acting as the primary technical advisor on large-scale projects, from requirements gathering and design through to installation, integration and maintenance.
  • Partnering closely with key stakeholders, end users and external contractors to ensure that solutions are aligned with long-term infrastructure strategy and organisational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Take ownership of high-impact network and unified communication projects, ensuring optimal performance, capacity, and reliability. Work with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve advanced technical issues.
  • Infrastructure Strategy: Collaborate with the Data Communications and Systems Manager to establish a forward-looking infrastructure strategy to meet changing needs, including planning for upgrades and future capacity.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain effective communication with internal teams, senior managers and external contractors to ensure transparency in project progress and technical requirements.
  • Network Security & Compliance: Contribute to the development and enforcement of robust security protocols, aligned with ITIL methodology, to protect sensitive data and support compliance with GDPR, NIS, and NHS Information Authority guidelines.
  • Project Management: Lead the planning, design, and execution of network and telecom installations and upgrades, coordinating efforts with facilities and third-party vendors to deliver seamless service integration.
  • Documentation & Policy Development: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and assist in shaping ICT policies that ensure operational excellence and mitigate network risks.
  • Mentorship & Training: Serve as a mentor and technical expert to ICT colleagues, providing training, guidance and support in specialised areas such as telephony, paging and video conferencing.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Significant experience in the design and management of complex data and telecommunication networks.
  • In-depth knowledge of emerging network technologies, security standards, and compliance with industry-specific regulations.
  • Proficiency in project management and stakeholder communication, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
