The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Lead to lead a machining team. This hands-on role is ideal for a time-served Machinist with a strong background in manual and CNC machining, along with leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.

Engineering Lead responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings to achieve precision specifications.
  • Set up and operate manual and CNC machinery (lathes, mills, grinders, drills).
  • Perform bench fitting, bearing renewal, and tool grinding as required.
  • Support low-volume precision work, mould work, and rubber machining.
  • Supervise and support machinists, ensuring efficient work flow and quality output.
  • Oversee production planning, capacity planning, and machine loading.
  • Manage tooling records, procurement, and supplier relationships.
  • Maintain departmental budgets, absence planning, and machine repairs.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Design Engineers, Production Admin, and Tooling Suppliers.
  • Foster a productive, respectful and high-performing team environment.


Engineering Lead requirements:

  • Minimum ONC (or equivalent) in Production & Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Strong hands-on experience in manual and CNC machining.
  • Knowledge of precision machining, tool grinding, and interchangeable inserts.
  • Experience in low-volume, high-precision manufacturing is highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
