Salary: Up to 60,000 depending on experience

About the role:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is an integral member of the mechanical team, responsible for delivering development projects of varying size and complexity relating to electric motors and their drive systems. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical elements of the design under the direction of the Lead Mechanical Engineer. They will focus on the detailed design of electric motor controller components, including material selection, 3D CAD design, technical drawings, and all relevant tasks associated. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will support the Lead Mechanical Engineer and Chief Technical Officer.
Key responsibilities:
You will report to the VP Engineering, CTO, and Lead Mechanical Engineer.
- Design products in accordance with customer requirements, company processes, and engineering standards.
- Construct CAD models and drawings, ensuring compliance with specifications, tolerances, and GD&T.
- Create and refine mechanical part and assembly drawings to capture design intent and ensure functionality.
- Investigate new and existing materials and methods to solve design challenges, documenting findings, and making recommendations.
- Manage the creation, control, and maintenance of release packages, design history files, and process activities.
- Produce technical engineering studies and documentation (e.g., DFMEA, tolerance analysis, FEA, Root Cause analysis).
- Responsible for mathematical modelling and product testing to validate simulation results. Plan and demonstrate correlation between models and real-life test results.
- Provide evaluations for low-cost, high-volume, high-reliability designs, including material and process selection.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment following HSE principles.
- May be required to work overseas as needed.
Skills & Experience Required:
Essential
- BEng/BSc or equivalent in a relevant mechanical engineering qualification.
- Practical experience and demonstrated accomplishments in the original design of traction motors used in automotive/off-road applications.
- Proven track record of product development from concept through to production, with strong technical ability in applying underpinning knowledge.
- Experience solving problems with new technologies and innovations for complex engineering systems.
- Demonstrable competence in the use of CAD tools (SolidWorks) to prepare design models and detailed drawings.
- Experience in motor calculations/simulation, including ANSYS Maxwell.
- Experience using ANSYS for FEA calculations.
- Experience creating documentation compliant with various UKCA and CE directives.
- Knowledge of compliance with key international standards.
- Capability to use specialist dynamic, structural, and thermal analysis tools is an advantage.
