The Operations Manager is responsible for the management and leadership of the Operations department (Production, Repair, Calibration, Order Fulfilment, Purchasing, Planning, and Stores).
The role requires a UK passport holder (not dual) and someone capable of gaining National Security Vetting - SC clearance.QUALIFICATIONS
- BSc/BEng or equivalent in Operations/Production Management or a similar discipline (minimum 2:1).
DUTIES
- Lead the Operations team in providing on-time delivery of high-tech products to the required cost & quality standards.
- Oversee the production of a rolling production schedule matched to the rolling 12-month Sales Forecast and current weekly/daily delivery demands.
- Responsible for supply and logistics processes, determining stock levels, and working with Finance, Sales, and Engineering to recommend increased efficiency.
- Ensure the operational input in the ERP system provides accurate, timely, and relevant information for the business.
- Attend weekly management meetings, reporting on schedules, production status, and issues.
- Oversee procurement improvements to optimize manufacturing program achievement.
- Participate in pre-production planning with Engineering to ensure end-to-end project oversight and direction on specials/new product development programs.
- Oversee all production processes, monitoring, managing, and guiding the Production Team Leader.
- Until demand permits a permanent position, act as the Production Planner, running MRP and raising/planning Jobs as necessary.
- Direct, develop, and motivate the team, applying appropriate management styles to achieve peak performance and foster team spirit. Ensure clear objectives, regular feedback, recognition, personal development plans, and prompt action on improvement areas.
- Mentor, train, and develop the Production team, maintaining a training/skills matrix and active training plans.
- Ensure the repair, calibration, and routine Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) of production equipment.
- Work closely with the Quality Manager to drive high-quality standards, minimize rework, and achieve first-time accuracy.
- Implement and operate 5S process methodologies, maintaining an orderly, clean, and safe workplace.
- Process the production element of Engineering Change Notes (ECN) efficiently.
- Create, validate, and publish month-end reports and Key Performance Indicators for the Production Team to the senior management team.
- Provide support to Operations, Sales, and Engineering teams.
- Ensure compliance with QHSE/ISO standards.
