Role Purpose and Department Overview:

The primary objective of the Quality Inspector (Mechanical) role is to ensure mechanical parts meet quality standards and comply with specifications outlined in the Company Quality Management System. The role involves verifying that parts conform to technical drawings and certifications, are fit for purpose, and adhere to relevant industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough inspections of mechanical parts and assemblies from both sub-contractors and the in-house machine shop using traditional mechanical inspection tools and advanced 3-axis ABERLINK AXIOM CMM systems, including the ability to write inspection programs.
  • Oversee the verification process for in-house machined components, ensuring compliance with quality standards and technical drawings.
  • Identify any discrepancies in component quality, escalate them through the in-house Observation Report System, and work with engineers to resolve issues promptly.
  • Perform Chemical Etching and PMI testing as required.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to address quality concerns and participate in supplier audits and visits as needed.
  • Ensure all necessary paperwork and certifications accompany inspected materials/components.
  • Inspect assemblies such as coils, cables, and battery packs for damage, correct crimp joints, and labeling accuracy. Testing of batteries and simple PCBs may be required under supervision until fully trained.
  • Work closely with design and development engineers to resolve issues with prototype parts and assemblies.
  • Prioritize work from both internal machine shop and external suppliers/subcontractors, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Maintain and calibrate inspection equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Update the Company's ERP system (Syspro) with inspection results, and prepare reject notes as needed.
  • Ensure all inspection tools and equipment are properly calibrated, and maintain updated calibration records.
  • Adhere to company safety policies, promoting a culture of safety-first, and escalating unsafe conditions or practices to management.
  • Perform lifting of up to 25kg, with appropriate equipment available for heavier items.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Essential:

  • Proficient in various IT packages, including Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical inspection techniques, particularly for pressure vessel components.
  • Experience with 3-axis ABERLINK AXIOM CMM (manual and NC) equipment.
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, including Maths and English.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of electrostatic dissipative device (ESD) requirements, relevant for part-assembled sub-assemblies.
  • Previous experience in an engineering/manufacturing environment.
Other Requirements:
  • Travel: Occasional travel to suppliers, test houses, etc. (transport will be provided).
  • Offshore Training: Not required.
