The Opportunity:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Structural / Civil Engineer to lead the buildings & structures assessment team at one of the UK’s largest and ‘Best Places to Work’ (Source – Glassdoor).
The Civils & Infrastructure Team at Ford & Stanley are currently partnered with Network Rail to find them an experienced Engineer to join their Route Engineering Team in their Eastern Region, overseeing the Anglia route as Senior Asset Engineer (Structures).
In this dynamic position, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping the future of rail infrastructure by providing innovative route-based asset management and structural engineering expertise.
This role will empower you to drive impactful structures asset management processes, focusing on condition, capability, and the sustainable delivery of key regulatory objective, whilst collaborating and providing engineering support with operational teams, ensuring the network operates at its highest potential.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical expertise relating to bridge/structural design and assessments.
The role covers both maintenance and project work, requiring technical expertise to determine if structures need renewal or strengthening. Our candidate will act as a Technical Lead on major interventions and projects, such as bridge replacements, or stabilisation work.
Anglia & East have around £280m allocated for renewals projects across CP7, and this candidate will have a major influence on how this money will be spent, and how efficiently.
- Manage risk and ensure non-conformance issues are mitigated.
There are 9278 bridge structures alone across the Eastern Region, many of which are Victorian-era assets, requiring regular assessments and interventions.
- Prioritise and create the work bank for CP7 and beyond.
The successful candidate will achieve this by collaborating with, and successfully integrating, the Examinations, Maintenance, and Renewals teams.
- Drive continuous improvement and look at creating efficiencies.
Opportunities for improvement include aligning processes across the different routes and simplifying/challenging complex procedures.
- Ensure all information is collated within Network Rail’s asset management database.

What they need from you:
- Essential: Civil / Structural Engineering degree or equivalent.
- Essential: Significant client-side Asset Management or Bridge / Structural Design experience, preferably rail-based. We can consider people from varying backgrounds, e.g., Consultancies, a TOC, Network Rail, National Highways, and Utilities Providers.
- Essential: Significant experience in a relevant role, or roles (e.g., Asset Engineer, Structural Engineer, Asset Manager, Project Engineer, Design Engineer, Design Manager, Engineering Manager).
- Essential: Our candidates must have experience managing and compiling large amounts of asset management data.
- Essential: Chartered or Incorporated status.
- Essential: Strong stakeholder management, & ideally line management experience.
- Desirable: Proficiency in tools like Microsoft Access, Power BI, and Excel would be helpful for quickly getting up to speed.
