Senior Scientist (Molecular Biology)

Reed Scientific are partnering with a leading research organisation based in York, who have an immediate requirement for a PhD qualified Molecular Biologist to join their research team to support on a variety of research projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Delivery
  • DNA Sequence Analysis: Deliver DNA barcoding results, work with Sanger sequence data, generate sequence alignments and use external databases like GenBank and Q-Bank
  • Phylogenetic and Population Genetic Analysis
  • Support and Guidance to fellow staff members.
  • Presentations and Training: Prepare and deliver talks, presentations, and training sessions to various audiences.
  • Bid Writing and Project Development: Contribute to and lead bid writing and develop scientific project ideas.

Skills & Experience required:

  • PhD within the Life Sciences (ideally crop related)
  • Molecular biology skills including PCR/qPCR and DNA & RNA sequencing
  • Additional experience or knowledge of nucleic acid-based diagnostics, DNA sequence analysis, and population genetic analysis would be highly desirable
  • Familiarity with external databases like GenBank, Q-Bank, and BOLD for DNA reference sequences would be highly desirable
  • Strong report-writing, data analysis, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
