A well-established, family-run food manufacturer based in the York area is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join its small, dedicated technical team. Operating 7 days a week, the business supplies premium dairy products to major UK retailers and prides itself on high-quality standards and a collaborative team environment. Please note, this role is part-time and permanent weekend work Friday-Sunday. 

You’ll play a key part in ensuring product quality and food safety by carrying out accurate testing of raw materials and finished products. This hands-on QC role also includes environmental monitoring, supporting new product development, and maintaining strict hygiene and lab housekeeping standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform analytical testing and quality checks on incoming raw materials and finished products

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation

  • Support process improvement and NPD activities

  • Conduct hygiene monitoring and uphold lab safety/cleanliness standards

  • Liaise with production, technical, and process teams to ensure quality expectations are met

Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Previous lab or QA/QC experience, ideally within the food manufacturing sector

  • Understanding of laboratory testing methods and food safety protocols

  • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or in a small team

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Outlook, Power BI a bonus)

  • A science-based qualification (degree, HND, A-levels) or equivalent experience

This role requires flexibility to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.
