Sous Chef / Second Chef who is creative with a passion for food is needed to join a prestigious, family-owned leisure business and restaurant in Flaxton, North Yorkshire. Known for its elegant dining and picturesque setting located in over 1,000 acres of serene lakes and enchanting woodland, the restaurant is recognised for its exceptional service, locally sourced and seasonal ingredients.

SALARY: £36,000 per annum (Negotiable based on Experience) + Benefits (see below)

LOCATION: Flaxton, North Yorkshire

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

PLEASE NOTE:Candidates must have a Full Driving License and their own vehicle as the site is inaccessible by public transport

JOB OVERVIEW

Following the completion of a major refurbishment (completed Feb 5th, 2025), the brand-new kitchen and restaurant now offer a state-of-the-art and environmentally sustainable working environment with full induction capabilities throughout. With this in mind the business is now seeking a talented and passionate Sous Chef / Second Chef to join their dynamic team and play a key role in the success of the new kitchen.

Working as Sous Chef / Second Chef you will work closely with the Head Chef to deliver an outstanding dining experience for guests. You will bring your culinary expertise to the team, helping to elevate the food offering and streamline kitchen operations/processes.

The role requires strong leadership skills, a commitment to food safety, and the ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic kitchen environment.

DUTIES

Your duties as a Sous Chef / Second Chef include:

  • Assist the Head Chef in creating, developing, and maintaining a high-quality menu that showcases local produce and culinary innovation
  • Lead the kitchen team during service, ensuring smooth operations and maintaining the highest standards of food quality and presentation
  • Oversee kitchen staff, including training, development, and performance management
  • Ensure all health, safety, and hygiene regulations are strictly adhered to at all times
  • Support the management of kitchen stock, ordering, and controlling food costs to ensure profitability
  • Help maintain a positive and productive working environment, leading by example and fostering a team-oriented culture
  • Ensure that all dishes are presented beautifully and meet the restaurant's quality standards
  • Covering the Head Chef during scheduled days off and holidays

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience working in a similar role, ideally within a fine dining or high-quality restaurant environment
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, motivate, and inspire a kitchen team
  • A creative approach to menu development and a keen interest in seasonal, local ingredients
  • Solid knowledge of kitchen operations, stock management, and cost control
  • A strong work ethic and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • A positive attitude, with the drive to contribute to a thriving kitchen environment
