Our client was established in 1986 by the current owners and has developed to become one of the major manufacturers & distributors of solvents, chemicals and consumables in the UK. In addition to growing our customer base the business has also acquired a number of like-minded businesses over the years to compliment the range of products and services that we offer.

The Transfer Station Chemists purpose is to efficiently receive, store, process and dispatch incoming waste through a hazardous waste transfer facility. Paramount to the role is that the waste is assessed and handled in an approved manner ensuring health, safety and environmental compliance are met whilst demonstrating continuous improvement in productivity.

The role holder will work closely with site operational teams to maximise shared resource whilst maintaining a positive health and safety culture with conscientious near miss/hazard spotting/reporting and delivering production and safety briefings.

The Transfer Station Chemist may have to undertake work at other facilities including customer’s premises which may involve travelling and nights out and the role holder will also be cross trained across other Site Chemist roles including the Laboratory and Treatment Plant.

  • Monitor and control all processes within the facility in terms of people and equipment to ensure operational productivities.
  • Ensure security of waste entering the facility and disposal in line with any stated customer requirement, at minimised cost.
  • Ensure inputs and outputs meet defined standards e.g., pre-acceptance, acceptance and onward transfer caveats, whilst driving best practice and continuous improvement in cost control and processing operations.
  • Control material flows through the site to ensure delays and backlogs are minimised.
  • Carry out regular stock control and inventory of materials, both waste and consumables held on site.
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping in all areas and ensure any housekeeping activities are carried out in an effective and timely manner.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with all company policy, process and procedures.

Here’s what we require:

  • Minimum of a HNC Chemistry Qualification.
  • Experience as a Chemist in a Hazardous Waste Management business, laboratory or chemical/manufacturing industry.
  • Hazardous Treatment & Transfer CoTC is desirable however not essential.
  • IT literate - Using MS Office.
  • Knowledge & understanding of the requirements of working within a time critical hazardous waste processing environment would be ideal.
  • Comprehensive understanding of chemical process safety
  • Analytical with the ability to measure & monitor data and take appropriate action.
  • Leadership and motivational skills.
  • Organised with the ability to simplify complex issues.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels, verbally and written.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £32,000.00 per year
