My client, a successful Multidisciplinary Civil and Structural Engineering Consultancy is seeking a dedicated and experienced Principal Bridges Engineer to join their busy team in York. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a key leadership role within a growing, employee-owned company. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, project management, and development of innovative engineering solutions across various structures.

Key Responsibilities for this Principal Bridge Engineering role:

  • Develop conceptual and detailed designs to meet project requirements.
  • Perform and review structural calculations and analyses using appropriate software.
  • Check design calculations and drawings prepared by other engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership, input, and review on design, assessment, and other technical tasks.
  • Assist with the preparation of fee proposals and bids.
  • Manage and nurture relationships with clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • Represent the company and design team in client and stakeholder meetings.
  • Conduct on-site structural inspections and investigations.
  • Provide technical support and mentorship to less experienced team members.
  • Lead the project management of small to medium-sized projects.

Qualifications & Skills:It is essential for the Principal Bridge Engineer to have a professional and commercial viewpoint through having the following:

  • A degree in engineering and be chartered or scheduled to sit for Chartership review within 12 months (ICE/IstructE).
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in a design environment.
  • Experience as a CRE in bridge refurbishment/renewals across various structural types and materials.
  • Proficiency with structural design in materials such as concrete, steel, timber, and masonry for structures including bridges, tunnels, stations, buildings, and geotechnical works.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills, including financial and contractual management.
  • Experience managing teams of 2-4 members and handling multiple concurrent, multi-discipline commissions.
  • A proven track record in client-facing roles and work-winning activities.
  • An innovative mindset with a desire for career progression.
  • A valid driving license.
