Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant

Salary: £83 - £100 per day
GSL Education are actively recruiting experienced Autism Specialist Teaching Assistants to work at a Special Educational Needs School in York, North Yorkshire starting as soon as possible.
The school provides education for young people with additional needs, varying from physical disabilities to multi-sensory needs. Every student is seen as an individual, with a personalised learning plan, in-line with their EHCP goals and outcomes. The school has vast facilities to help support the social, academic and physical needs of their learners.
Autism Specialist Teaching Assistants Requirements:
- Have recent experience supporting children, young people or adults with Autism.
- Have knowledge of associated needs and behaviours linked to Autism.
- Be trained in de-escalation, such as Team Teach, MAPA or NAPPI (this is not essential, but desirable).
- Have a calm, nurturing and patient persona.
- Be a flexible education practitioner, who can adapt quickly to situations.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to have one processed via GSL Education.
Autism Specialist Teaching Assistants Responsibilities:
- Assist classroom teachers in planning and implementing lessons and activities tailored to the diverse needs of students with autism.
- Work closely with students with autism on a 1:1 and small group basis.
- Help students develop their communication and social skills.
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff and other professionals to develop and implement behaviour management plans.
- Track student progress and behaviours.
- Foster positive relationships with students with autism.
As an Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant, it is vital to have a clear understanding of autism, and the behaviours associated. You should have a natural enthusiasm and positive outlook to engage and support young people. Having a good sense of humour and being resilient will prove vital to becoming a successful member of the team.
