Role & Client Overview:

We are looking for a Waste Management & Recycling Instructor (Environmental Instructor) to oversee waste management services at HMP Millsike, training prisoners in industry-recognised qualifications and contributing to the prison’s sustainability goals. This role is essential in supporting efforts to increase recycling rates, reduce waste, and work towards net-zero targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead & Train: Manage a team of up to 35 prisoners, delivering hands-on training in waste management and recycling.
- Sustainability & Compliance: Oversee waste collection, sorting, processing, and disposal, ensuring compliance with environmental and security regulations.
- Operational Efficiency: Maintain stock levels, manage equipment, and liaise with external contractors for waste removal and sustainability projects.
- Health & Safety: Ensure the safe use of tools, equipment, and plant machinery, adhering to prison security and environmental health standards.
- Rehabilitation & Career Development: Help prisoners develop transferable skills, enhancing their employability upon release.
Essential/Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in waste management, recycling, environmental sustainability, or a related field.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to train, supervise, and motivate a team.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, including compliance with waste management and tool security policies.
- WAMITAB qualification (or willingness to undertake training).
- Vocational training or coaching experience is desirable but not essential.
- Experience in a prison, custodial, or secure environment is an advantage.

The successful candidate must pass prison clearance, including:
- Enhanced background checks (employment history & criminal records).
- Security vetting for a custodial environment.
