The Role

We are excited to recruit IT Tutors for HMP Millsike, a new prison estate near York, launching in Spring 2025. This is a unique opportunity to shape and deliver ICT education from the ground up, helping learners build essential skills and supporting their reintegration into society. If you’re passionate about education, digital literacy, and reducing reoffending, this could be the perfect role for you.

Purpose of the Role: As an IT Tutor, you’ll deliver high-quality ICT lessons to small groups, teaching skills from Entry Level 3 to Level 3 using the Gateway curriculum. You’ll engage learners in digital literacy, promote employability, and offer restorative practices that foster self-reflection and accountability. This is a meaningful opportunity to equip learners with skills that open doors to future opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver ICT lessons aligned with Gateway standards, meeting each learner at their level and using adaptive teaching techniques.
  • Develop, review, and adjust learning plans based on each learner’s goals, using BKSB diagnostics to identify strengths and growth areas.
  • Provide literacy support for learners who need additional help and encourage a love of reading for personal growth.
  • Integrate practical digital and employability skills into lessons to help learners transition into work or further study.
  • Plan activities for peer mentors, supervise their support in sessions, and ensure a collaborative learning environment.
  • Complete all administrative tasks, including attendance, enrolment, ILPs, exam arrangements, and progress reviews.
  • Work closely with Careers Advisors, Learning Support Practitioners, and prison staff to support learners with diverse needs and track their progress.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum Level 2 in Maths & English.
  • Clear understanding of the OFSTED framework and expectations.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and manage challenging situations calmly and professionally.
  • Background in working with disadvantaged individuals and creating inclusive learning environments.
