Job Purpose

The Teaching Assistant will support the class teacher in providing a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment for all students. This role involves working closely with children to enhance their educational experience, supporting those with special educational needs, and helping maintain positive behaviour and learning standards in the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Classroom Support

    • Assist the teacher with lesson preparation and delivery.
    • Support students individually or in small groups to reinforce understanding of material taught.
    • Provide feedback on pupil progress and behaviour to the teacher
  2. Learning Support

    • Offer additional help to students with learning difficulties, adapting tasks and activities where necessary.
    • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs under teacher supervision.
    • Encourage student engagement and independence in their learning.
  3. Behaviour and Welfare

    • Promote positive behaviour and encourage good social skills.
    • Address minor behavioural issues following school policy and escalate more serious concerns as needed.
    • Supervise students during breaks, lunch, and other non-structured times as required.
  4. Administrative Tasks

    • Assist with organising resources, classroom materials, and displays.
    • Maintain records of student progress and behaviour as instructed by the teacher.
    • Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.

Person Specification

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with children.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Basic understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
