In this pivotal position, you'll play a key strategic role on the Senior Executive Team, leading our people strategy and ensuring our missions and values can be achieved, as well as driving exciting culture change initiatives across the organisation.About the opportunity;Reporting directly to the COO and leading a fantastic HR team, Your efforts will ensure that our mission and core values are effectively supported, enabling us to achieve our long-term goals whilst driving an integrated people service and high performing culture. With an initial focus on leadership development, reward strategies, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), and driving a variety of culture transformation initiatives. With four direct reports and a wider team across the organisation, the Director of People will be responsible for;

  • Providing overall leadership and guidance to the People function by overseeing HR and Volunteering advice, talent acquisition, career development, succession planning, retention, training, leadership development, reward and recognition.
  • Providing strategic oversight of the experience of working with or volunteering for York Minster including ensuring safeguarding underpins all activities.
  • Developing legally compliant People policies, to deliver strategic objectives.
  • Providing people partnering support to the Senior Executive Team and department leads on organisational and management issues.
  • Promoting employee/volunteer voice including oversight of the work of the Staff Forum.
The Ideal Candidate;Key requirements
  • Substantial experience of leading a people function with multiple stakeholders in a complex organisation.
  • Excellent working knowledge of current employment law and practice and proven track record in maintaining knowledge.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing managers and staff members.
  • Substantial experience of developing and embedding policy.
  •  Active support for our values of Integrity, Purpose, Humility, and Compassion.
  • Proven experience of leading projects across a complex organisation including delivering culture change initiatives.
  • Worked in an organisation that benefits from volunteer contribution and/or undertaken voluntary role(s).
  • The minster offers a flexible working approach, However this role requires HR presence and therefore expectations would be 3-4 days on site.
