SRG are partnered with a leading science company with focus on crop health, food safety and environmental science. They are seeking an Assistant Scientist to join their team.

About the role

As a member of the Entomology Team, you will be assisting the team to deliver insect identifications by being responsible for logging in samples, sample maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment.

Role responsibilities:

  • Preparing samples for identification.
  • Accurately booking in samples.
  • Distribute and track samples to different departments.
  • Data entry.
  • Ordering equipment and consumables.
  • Keep clear and accurate written and computer records.
  • Maintenance of laboratory samples.
  • Cleaning of the laboratory environment and equipment.

Required experience/qualifications:

  • Candidates should have 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (including English and Maths or Science) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of working in a laboratory and following protocols or standard operating procedures is desired.
  • An intersted in entomology or simailr is highly desired.
  • The position involves working with both live and dead insects, mites, and other invertebrates, so feeling comfortable with this is important.
  • We are looking for someone with excellent team working skills, who cares for the quality of their work and asks questions when unclear. Our ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication; they will be able to work in an organised manner to deliver work as efficiently as possible to meet deadlines whilst maintaining high standards
  • Practical IT skills in software packages such as Microsoft Word and Excel
