We're seeking a dynamic Regional Director to lead the York planning team, drive cross-discipline collaboration, and support the growth and success of our consultancy.

The Role

As Regional Director, you will:

  • Lead the York office and manage its planning team.
  • Promote collaboration across our diverse disciplines.
  • Assist in the overall management of the Planning Division.
  • Drive business growth by attracting new opportunities and strengthening client relationships.
  • Represent the consultancy as a trusted ambassador within the industry.

This role is pivotal to expanding our presence in sectors such as residential, commercial, and estates. You'll focus on generating opportunities and delivering excellence while building upon our existing client base.

Responsibilities

  • Lead client engagements to secure new projects and maintain long-term relationships.
  • Network effectively to build industry connections, including with local planning authorities.
  • Oversee and negotiate contracts with clients and suppliers.
  • Develop business opportunities and secure strategic projects with minimal oversight.
  • Contribute to the regional business plan and strategic goals.
  • Manage P&L, budgets, and project profitability while upholding SHEQ standards.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and career development for team members.
  • Deliver complex projects to a high standard, often with no supervision.
  • Take on leadership roles in appeals, including as an expert witness at inquiries.
  • Prepare strategic research, policy assessments, and tender responses.

What You'll Bring

  • RTPI-accredited degree or Master's in a related discipline.
  • Chartered Membership of the RTPI.
  • At least 8 years of professional experience, including private sector roles and leadership on large-scale projects.
  • 3-5 years of strategic-level people management experience.
  • Proven ability to lead transformational change and mentor junior staff.
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and client management skills.
  • Expertise in planning practice and legislation across England and Wales.
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities effectively.
