Are you from a sports background and looking to use your skills in a rewarding education setting? Do you have a passion for supporting young people who face social, emotional, and behavioural challenges?

GSL Education is looking for Sports Mentors / Behaviour Support Assistants to work in a specialist school setting in York. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in coaching, personal training, or team sports, who can use their skills to engage students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Behaviour Support Assistant Key Responsibilities:

  • Use sport and physical activity to build relationships, promote teamwork, and encourage positive behaviour.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support, helping students develop confidence, resilience, and emotional regulation.
  • Assist in lessons, encouraging students to engage in learning through active and creative approaches.
  • Implement structured behaviour management strategies to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Support students with additional needs such as ADHD, Autism, and SEMH, adapting activities to their abilities.

Behaviour Support Assistant Requirements:

  • Background in sports coaching, personal training, or youth mentoring.
  • Passion for working with young people with challenging behaviours.
  • Strong communication, patience, and resilience.
  • Experience supporting young people in education, coaching, or community sports settings (preferred).
  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
