R S Cockerill are a family business based at Dunnington, near York supplying fresh potatoes into the supermarkets, as well as supplying the major crisp manufacturers with processing potatoes. We operate throughout the potato supply chain from delivering seed potatoes to farms, right through to distributing the finished product to our customers. All of this activity is supported by our own transport division, operating 15 articulated units to support 90 trailers ranging from flat trailers to root crop bulkers, to curtainsiders and insulated vans. As well as our own fleet, we have a dedicated network of subcontractors working with us.

Job description:

We are looking for an individual to support the Transport Manager in:

Day to day traffic operations, planning driver and vehicle resource, collating orders and optimising trailer fill.

Creating and updating the daily traffic summary.

Ensure precise and informative communication with colleagues, farmers, and communicating with drivers and subcontractors.

Assist the Transport Manager in making sure that we operate within the law and that we are compliant with all legal and regulatory requirements.

Overseeing the management and logistics of returnable customer trays and merchandising units.

Key responsibilities:

You will be required to demonstrate:

Strong communication skills to deliver accurate information.

Excellent planning and organisational skills, with a high level of numeracy and a keen eye for attention to detail.

Efficiently manage time and prioritise tasks and assignments. Able to work within deadlines and to booking in times.

Proficiency in general IT systems and applications within a fast-paced environment, and able to use online vehicle tracking and maintenance portals.

Show full co-operation and awareness of company Health & Safety policies and procedures.

Able to work as part of a team or individually.

Be professional, approachable and helpful to ensure smooth running of the general operation.

Have a proactive and flexible approach, with an enthusiastic can do attitude.

A full UK Driving License.

Weekday work hours from 08:00 to 17:00 (with an hour for lunch), but you will be expected to be included in a weekend cover rota, with days off in lieu.
