Job Summary:

At the direction of a radiologist or other physician, competently performs MRI exams. Reviews/approves images and related information for quality, accuracy and completeness, and forwards to PACS for archive and image interpretation. Supports customer service and other quality initiatives as defined by hospital and department policy. Provides positive and effective interaction and communication with patients, visitors, medical and hospital staff. Other duties as assigned.

  • .8 FTE - 32 Hours Per Week
  • On Call Coverage Required 

Essential Job Functions:
• Provides technologist services for MRI and/or X-ray that include the day to day operations, patient and staff MRI/CT safety, radiation protection, and equipment logs/records related MRI and/or X-ray.
• Must be able to operate and maintain MRI and/or X-ray equipment. The Technologist will support equipment in such a manner as to perform and produce high quality images of specified anatomy.
• Maintains production and quality of MRI and/or X-ray exams by following established standards and procedures.
• Acquire and use a thorough knowledge of MRI and radiation physics, principals, with emphasis on continually learning new applications and development, as they become available.
• Has knowledge and understanding of anatomy as it relates to MRI and/or X-ray.
• Annual education through Cornerstone MRI safety and radiation protection.
• Serve as the MRI Safety Officer at the designated facility if applicable.
• Assist with reception/scheduling duties.
• Works with a PACS system
• Maintains operating supplies by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, policies, and regulations
• Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of procedures; answering questions
• Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
• Evaluates each patient's completed medical questionnaire, noting medical history, complaints and appropriateness of scan prior to imaging.
• Assures patient and employee safety through competency in the use of all equipment and safety equipment including, but not limited to: monitoring of patient implants and proper documentation of any incident in the department.
• Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
• Ability to be self-directed.
• Demonstrates accountability, professionalism, and receptiveness to change; seeks guidance, direction, and assistance when needed.
• Able to make sound reasonable decisions.
• Works well under stress and in situations that demand patience, stamina, endurance, and tact while providing impeccable service.

• Technologist must be capable of independent judgement to maintain continuity of patient care of the highest standards
• Regular and prompt work-site attendance
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability: 

  • Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
  • Active certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) with MRI credentials 
  • Must possess a Wisconsin radiographer license
  • Ability to relate and work effectively with others
  • BLS certification is required upon hire
  • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards
  • Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement
  • Previous MRI in a hospital environment is preferred
  • Is aware of professional standards and performs in accordance with them
