Job Summary:
The Short Stay (SS) Charge Nurse is responsible for the execution of the daily operation of Short Stay Services. Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Surgical Services, the Charge Nurse will direct and/or provide nursing care for an assigned group of patients across the age continuum.

Essential Job Functions:
• Responsible for the scheduling of staff in the department
• Responsible for daily room and staff assignments based on need
• Facilitates daily work flow of patients through the unit
• Updates the surgical board and or surgery schedule as necessary throughout the day
• Collaborates with other departments to maximize resources such as staff and space
• Provides professional peri-operative nursing care utilizing the nursing process
• Communicates with the surgical services manager daily on personnel conflicts, staffing, patient care issues, and educational needs of the department
• Maintains professionalism with all patient, staff, and physician interactions
• Collaborates with the surgical services manager in conducting monthly staff meetings
• Provides written weekly updates to staff and surgical services manager
• Regular and prompt work-site attendance
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability:
• Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
• Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
• Current RN licensure in the State of Wisconsin
• BLS certification is required upon hire
• Must be able to achieve PALS and ACLS certification within six months of hire
• Ability to relate and work effectively with others
• Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards
• Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement
• Previous operating room nursing experience and general nursing experience is preferred
• Is aware of professional nursing standards and performs in accordance with them
