Jr. Staff Accountant

Overview:

Prepare journal entries, maintain and reconcile ledger accounts. Provide record of assets, liabilities and other financial transactions and perform accounts payable/receivable duties.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare supporting schedules for federal, state and local reports and tax returns.
  • Interpret reports and records for managers.
  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and prepare adjusting journal entries.
  • Assist with statistical analysis to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes, and writes narrative reports explaining findings.
  • Assist with analysis of financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and assists with the preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for other managers.
  • Analyze and reviews projects for compliance with contracts.
  • Assist project managers with project analysis and support.
  • Monitor compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures.
  • Review, investigate, and report errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports to the Division Controller.
  • Assist with installs, modifies, documents, and coordinates implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures.
  • Devise and implement systems for general accounting.
  • Conduct studies and submit recommendations for improving the organization's accounting operation.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.


Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years related experience and/or training.
  • Government contract accounting experience preferred.
  • Timberline experience preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task efficiently, works in a fast paced environment on multiple projects, and has a strong attention for detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under a minimum of supervision and have self-motivation.
  • Demonstrate a good attitude and ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite of products including, Word, Excel, Access and E-mail business software.
  • Advanced Excel spreadsheet experience required.
